 Our Purpose

The National Short Stirrup Equestrian League (NCSSEL) provides an opportunity for novice junior  riders to be a viable part of a team, promote the art of equitation, foster competition and camaraderie, as well as encourage social functions centered around equestrian activities.  Good sportsmanship and a no stress competition atmosphere will be emphasized.

How it works:

-         The League is composed of up to 12 teams consisting of  novice junior riders with only 6 riders competing for points and up to three alternate riders whose points do not affect team standings.

-         Shows are typically held on Sundays.  Shows will likely be held in November, December, January and February with the Finale scheduled for March.  An awards banquet will be held in March or April at a central location selected by the League Board.

-         League meets rotate between host barns; and with the exception of the finale meet, riders must ride the school horses provided by the host barn. Teams trailer their own school horses to the NCSSEL finale.

-         Classes are judged on equitation.  Meets consist of both flat and over fences classes.

Requirements and Rules:

-         Only novice junior riders are eligible for membership

-         Riders may not have shown over fences exceeding 2 feet.

-     Riders must be enrolled in weekly lessons as of October 1st of the show season.
